I’m willing to work hard. I know I can own my own business one day. I know I can be my own boss one day, but I just don’t know where to start!
Always remember that everyone has to start somewhere. All braiders have to grow their clientele. It’s not magic and doesn’t happen over night. But, if you have the drive and passion for this industry, the sky is the limit!
You have to have a marketing plan. Now that you have set up your social media pages, received your business cards, told your friend and family that you are a professional braider, what do you do next to get business? Will the clients come to the salon every 4 to 6 weeks to get their hair braided? Will they buy hair products from you? Will you make enough money to pay your overhead? Most people starting out, do not have money to spend on advertising. So what do you do?
Take your business cards with you wherever you go. Introduce yourself and hand them out to people on a regular basis.
Offer a discount on the back of the card! 10% off on their next hairstyle. A free hair scarf to wrap their hair at night or maybe a sample of the shea-butter mixture you made. Chances are if people are getting a free item or a discount, they are more likely to come to you for their braiding service than someone who offered nothing free. Sometimes just handing over a card could prompt an on the spot consultation, which may lead this new client to your chair.” Within a year you could be fully booked!
Post on social media. Show off pictures of your work on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr and any other social media platform. Social media is the best way right now to reach potential clients. All you need to do is take quality photos. This can be done with your cellphone.
Is this the plan to success? Yes, it really is. But, I have to tell you that in order for you to succeed, you must exude positivity and truly cares about your profession. When you radiate positivity the clients will be drawn to you. If you make your clients a number one priority and treat them well, they will remain loyal. Be dedicated to your profession and keep learning new styles and techniques to always getting better. Most of all ” treat everyone you meet like they are a potential client!”
